The first thing we tend to neglect when the going gets tough (if not all the time) is our own self-care. What is self-care? The short answer is – it just means taking care of ourselves, right? But that’s often easier said than done. However, our self-care is what keeps us going. It helps us stay on top of our game. Self-care keeps us feeling healthy inside and out. It keeps us strong.

Self-care is more than just making sure we’re getting enough sleep, exercise and eating nutritionally. Those things are a big part of taking good care of ourselves and sometimes we need to start there. But showing ourselves compassion and staying in touch with our desires, who we are and who we want to be is also a huge part of maintaining a self-care routine that is do-able and long lasting. If you find yourself saying, “I don’t have time for that stuff,” then trust me “that stuff” is exactly what you need or you will soon be burned out (if you aren’t already). The truth is while there are some self-care basics that are the same for all of us, the real trick to making self-care the rule vs. the exception is making it personal and not losing touch with our truest selves. We can start wherever you are and move you towards feeling stronger, more peaceful and happier.
